Penny experiment
Test surface tension using a penny, dropper and water.
You will need:
Washed and dried penny
Water
An eye dropper or pipette
1. Place the penny on a flat surface.
2. Drop water on the penny until it reaches the edges of the penny.
3. Continue to drop water on the penny.
Does it bubble up instead of falling off the edge?
How many drops did it take before the surface tension broke?
Similar to the penny, the water on your fountain gets ‘caught’ on the edge of the fountain, preventing it from spilling off the edge.
